As America celebrates the birthday of Joan Groves (Sandee's Mother), I thought it only appropriate to point out that there are other events that have taken place on the 4th of July.
On that day in 1826, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died.
On that day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was formally adopted. Thomas Jefferson, age 33, had written the first draft of the Declaration in June of 1776. The Congress met and edited the document and agreed upon the final wording on July 4. They ordered the document to be copied on parchment for everyone to sign. On August 2nd, 1776; this parchment document was ready for signing. This is the document we are all familiar with and can be seen in the National Archives.
